Government backing for new treatment plant
Senator Carr said family-owned medical waste service company Sweeney Todd would put its $320,000 grant towards a $1.3 million new steam treatment plant - a move that could create 19 new full-time positions by 2013.
"Steam treatment is unique to Australia and greatly reduces the environmental footprint compared to other older methods of medical waste treatment. By building a new steam treatment plant, Sweeney Todd is showing it is committed to transforming its business so it can save the environment and thrive in a low-carbon economy."
Mr Marles said the new steam treatment plant was being developed jointly with another local company, Austeng Engineering.
