New Machinery
New Shredder fitted to STI
Series 2000 Disposal Unit on Monday 20th January as part of
an planned improvement
The Untha RS40 will render the
waste unrecognisable and is the world’s latest industrial
shredders for medical waste. The installation replaces the
previous shredder which had been in service for 5500 hours
and had given reliable service.
The installation was completed
using Sweeny Todd staff , and local engineers from SAVA
ENGINEERING, North Shore. Overseeing the project was Project
Manager Owen Diefenbach from WASTE INITIATIVE, Queensland.
High torque 4 shaft shear
type shredder
Four shaft shredders are designed for rugged and
continuous use. The cutting chamber is self-cleaning as each
cutter cleans between the other. The four shafts help grab
bulky objects and regurgitate the waste until it is fine
enough to fall through a sizing screen. Different screens
can be installed to give different size results. These
screens can easily be removed from the shredder, for easy
maintenance. The Shredder is driven by two motors, which
have Star Delta Start, and controlled by a torque limit
system with reversion control unit. Each motor drives two
shafts, which can independently reverse when coming under
heavy loads. This feature helps reposition the waste for
further shredding, and it also enables it to reverse out of
any situation.
High torque, low speed cutters
(23rpm) - result in low noise and low maintenance. Forged
tool steel, hardened cutters have 19mm cutting width, but
the spacers and cutters are forged in one piece giving the
cutter a 38mm base for maximum torque per cutter. 29mm, 38mm
and 50mm cutters are also available. These industrial models
have special bulkhead walls (for extra bearing protection),
labyrinth seals, triple bearings per shaft and stainless
steel shaft/bearing protection for longer life and lower
maintenance. |
