Benjamin Barker, a talented barber, is transported to Australia on false charges engineered by the corrupt Judge Turpin, who covets Barker’s wife. Returning years later under the alias Sweeney Todd, he finds his wife destroyed and his daughter imprisoned in the judge’s household.
Consumed by a lust for vengeance that metastasises into murderous madness, Todd forms an unlikely alliance with the resourceful and ruthlessly pragmatic pie-shop owner Mrs Lovett.
Together they set Fleet Street alight — in ways the city will never forget.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street premiered on Broadway in 1979, directed by Harold Prince, and won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical.
The show has enjoyed landmark productions across the world, including Tim Burton’s 2007 film adaptation starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.
